My Mini-Lindy The Lindberg Line HO 1:87 Scale Model Bus Collection
Lindberg Products Inc.

The Lindberg Line

Lindberg Products Inc., of Skokie, Illinois.  Former producers of small scale plastic snap fit assembly model kits of various vehicles including cars, trucks, vans and buses.  From the package examples available, models seem to have been produced in three production runs, 1968, 1975 and 1977.

The 1975 Hi Rollers packages call the kits "Authentic Miniature Plastic Model Construction Kit".  It goes on to say "Although Not In Exact H.O. Scale, This Kit May Be Compatible With H.O. Gauge Layouts."  In actual fact, at least regarding the buses, the scale is not at all close.  In fact the GM PD 4501 is a little larger than half the size of the CMW Scenicruiser.  The school bus is much closer and could be passable but is still a bit too small.

I find the best part of this collection is the box artwork.  Each box style is very contemporary and stylish for their particular release era.  I also love how Lindberg attempts to capitalize on the Van craze of the late 1970's.

GM PD 4501 Scenicruiser Highway Bus
Package art depicts the infamous GM PD-4501 Greyhound Scenicruiser.  However, the actual model is somewhat disappointing.  Since the model is so small the standard Lindberg Mini-Lindy wheels look very oversized.  In addition the the overall body shape and look of the model are not very realistic, and in some ways unattractive (when compared to the elegance of the original coach).

Ford B Series School Bus
The box art for this model depicts a GMC school bus from the middle 1960s.  However, in this case, the bus model itself appears to be a hybrid modeled on a 1962-1966 GMC hood/fenders with a 1967 Ford B Series school bus grille.  Why this was done is unknown.  As mentioned above this model may be a little small but is still somewhat passable for HO 1:87 scale.  This model has great detail, the body even shows hundreds of tiny rivets.
